Major and Minor Gynaecological Surgeries
Dr. Lipika Das Mukhopadhyay performs both major and minor gynaecological surgeries to address a variety of conditions affecting the female reproductive system. These surgeries are essential for diagnosing and treating issues that cannot be managed through conservative measures alone. Each procedure is tailored to the specific needs of the patient, ensuring the best possible outcomes with minimal discomfort and recovery time.
Hysteroscopy
A procedure that uses a thin, lighted tube (hysteroscope) inserted through the vagina to examine the inside of the uterus. It is used to diagnose and treat conditions such as abnormal bleeding, polyps, or fibroids.
Endometrial Biopsy
A procedure to obtain a small sample of the endometrial lining for evaluation. It helps diagnose conditions like abnormal uterine bleeding or cancer.
D&C (Dilatation and Curettage)
A surgical procedure where the lining of the uterus is scraped or suctioned out. It is used to treat abnormal bleeding, remove uterine polyps or fibroids, or manage miscarriage.
Hysterectomy
The surgical removal of the uterus, which may also involve the removal of the cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Hysterectomy is performed to treat conditions such as severe fibroids, endometriosis, cancer, or chronic pelvic pain. It can be performed through an abdominal incision (open hysterectomy) or using minimally invasive techniques like laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery.
Oophorectomy
The removal of one or both ovaries, often done to treat ovarian cysts, tumors, or cancer. This procedure may be combined with a hysterectomy if necessary.
Myomectomy
The surgical removal of uterine fibroids while preserving the uterus. It is often performed for women who wish to maintain their fertility.
Laparotomy
An open abdominal surgery performed to diagnose or treat conditions such as large ovarian cysts, endometriosis, or pelvic masses. It involves a larger incision than laparoscopic surgery and may be necessary for more extensive procedures.
Laparoscopic Surgery
A technique that uses small incisions and a laparoscope (a thin, lighted tube with a camera) to perform surgeries. It reduces pain, scarring, and recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.
